The Bingham Cafe

Here’s an advertisement for The Bingham Cafe from the program/souvenir booklet for the play L’Aiglon starring Maude Adams which played in Philadelphia at The Broad Street Theater back in 1901.

The Bingham House was located at 11th and Market Streets and built in 1867 by John Crump. It was his fourth hotel following the erection of the third Chestnut Street Theater at 1211 Chestnut Street, The Union League at Broad and Locust, and The Colonnade on the southwest corner of 15th and Chestnut.

It was a gorgeous building that housed the “Strictly Bohemian” cafe – sadly it was demolished. I say we bring back this style of buildings and Hungarian Gypsy bands!
