My niece Sophia just celebrated her first birthday, and since a girl is never too young to learn how to accessorize – I made some bows for her hair. These are basically a mini version of the bow tie with a hair clip attached. They’re so much fun to make, I forced myself to stop at five! I began using fabrics with tiny patterns, then switched to larger patterns, which I think made for an interesting bow.
Cut two pieces of fabric – 5 1/2″ x 2 1/4″ and 1 1/4″ x 3″.
Fold the strips length-wise, right side facing out and stitch along the length.
Iron the strips so that the seam is in the center.
Join the ends of the larger strip and sew together, now it looks like a ring.
With the seam centered in the back, fold the bow in half and stitch 3/4″ across by hand or machine. Make sure you go through all four layers of fabric!
Cut an inch or so off of the thin strip (I made it 3″ long for ease of running it through the sewing machine). Wrap it around the center of the bow, leaving a little bit of room to slide the hair clip through, and hand stitch. Slide the clip through and you’re done!
