Sewing a Kindle Case

K-Cover

I made this Kindle cover with traveling in mind – it’s big enough to hold the Kindle and the data cable. I used a high loft quilt batting for extra protection, and wide ric rac to hold the flap into place, but allow for quick access. It’s an easy project you can make in less than an hour. Happy sewing!

LayersText

  • 2 pieces of fabric 9″ x 22″
  • 1 piece of quilt batting 9″ x 22″
  • 1 – 10″ piece of ric ric

Arrange the fabric face to face with the quilt batting on the bottom as shown in the photo above, pin together.

K-FlapText

With a fabric marker, measure and mark for the flap.

K-TrimText

Sew down the side using a 1/4″ seam allowance, around the flap, then down the other side, leaving the bottom open. Trim off the excess fabric on the flap.

K-FoldText

Turn the cover right side out, use a pencil or chopstick to push the corners of the flap out. Turn the fabric on the bottom in, pin, and stitch across. Fold into place, and attach the ric rac 1″ inch down from the top. Pin into place, tuck ends under, and sew the sides up.
