The Lit Brothers Building

I was running errands in town yesterday, when I passed The Lit Brothers building on 8th and Market. Built in 1859 by architects Edward Collins & Charles M. Autenrieth, the façade is a Renaissance Revival style. It reminds me of a wedding cake – well, if a wedding cake were made of iron, brick, and terra cotta – it’s a gorgeous building. The store closed it’s doors in 1977, miraculously, it was saved from the wrecking ball and it’s been redeveloped with shops and office spaces.
