I Want a New Toy!

…and I got some new toys!
First up is the Sailor Fude de Mannen which is a fabulous fountain pen made in Japan. I think it was meant to be a calligraphy pen, but it works great for drawing. You can get a variety of line weights depending on the angle you hold the bent nib to the paper. It’s like having a whole set of technical pens or brushes in one pen. It’s nice not having to juggle a number of Micron Pigma markers or Rapidographs looking for the right thickness of line. This new pen is really a pleasure to use! Continue reading

Orange Cranberry Ricotta Pound Cake

Thanksgiving will be here before you know it, and this pound cake is perfect to have on hand to serve overnight guests with coffee for breakfast. They’re going to need some form of sustenance before you rope them into peeling vegetables and rolling out pie dough! Continue reading

Upholstery Cat

So, I’ve been working on re-upholstering my sofa for the past few weeks. Of course, I’d be done right now if Plywood the Cat didn’t insist on insinuating himself into the process. I was returning from a break in covering the side pillows when I found my feline friend had turned the new covers into a sleeping bag. I guess I’m done for the day.
Is it over yet?

14 years ago when I purchased my first Roku box, the whole concept of streaming video was in its infancy and it was great! For a fraction of the cost of a cable television subscription I could watch what I wanted when I wanted. Sadly, the notion of streaming caught on in a big way and streaming started to mutate into what it was meant to replace — cable TV. The advertisers followed the eyeballs of their cherished demographic groups as they turned to streaming and hammered my once unsullied streams unmercifully with wall-to-wall pharmaceutical and political advertising. Fortunately, the political ads will come to an end today at least until the next election cycle. The same can’t be said for the drug companies.
I think it’s time to fire up the DVD player. Truly ad-free entertainment! Heaven knows I have enough disks.
