The Joisey Debbil

Joisey_Debbil

This was a sketch I did in a sketchbook using my former weapon of choice way back in 1986. I was hanging out with Dan Platt who was trying to visualize the legendary Jersey Devil in clay. He kept reading and rereading eyewitness accounts of the creature, but the farmers and yokels who spied the beast back before electricity and indoor plumbing weren’t the most eloquent witnesses. I thought about it and worked on a few sketches making the Devil more demon-like and going for a sickly, corrupted, asymmetrical look. My buddy took the ball and ran with it as you can see here.

  1. WTF!!, I haven’t seen Dan since he left for fame and fortune.

I fell out of touch with Dan, but as you can see from his website, he’s doing pretty well out there on the West Coast.

Nah, I’m still here… just hiding out from the paparazzi’s in Venice Beach. 😉

I always loved that sketch Joe! Maybe its fate, maybe coincidence, but I’m working on a new version right now in my studio. Between JD and Frankenstein, its a subject matter that’s deeply wired in me.

“Cooch” is that you lurking in the shadows? Damn that’s cool! Thanks for all of those great discounts back when I was a student!! 😉

    Cheers boyz! -Dan

Holy smokes! How are you, Dan?
