Pencil Roll

Being the gal-on-the-go that I am, I’ve been wanting to make a pencil roll for a while. I had some mattress ticking lying around from a quilt that I made a few years ago that was perfect for the project.

I cut out 3 pieces of fabric 14″ x 9″. I folded the the thin stripe square in half lengthwise – this is the pocket for the pencils – and sewed it to the black and white square.

I stitched vertical rows 3/4″ apart for the pencils, and a 1″ slot for my ruler. Then I attached it to the red striped fabric, leaving the right side open for the tie.

I took a 1 1/2″ x 10″ inch strip and folded it in half and stitched it up for the tie. I folded it in half, placed it in between the layers of fabric, pinned it in place, and sewed it up! You could use a piece of ribbon or even a shoelace for this step.

And finally, a 14″ x 9″ piece of fabric cut, folded in half and stitched for the top flap. We wouldn’t want to lose our Sakura Pigma pens, now would we? Roll it up, and you’re ready to go!
