Past Tense?

Sorry, Parker Stevenson! The joke was too obvious to pass up!

This was another poster from the FULL COLOR POSTER SPECTACULAR.

This appeared in Marvel Comics’ Godzilla: King of the Monsters No.18 published in 1978. At that time, Parker Stevenson and Shaun Cassidy were pretty popular with the teeny-bopper/Tiger Beat set being that they solved crimes every week as television’s The Hardy Boys. I think I caught bits and pieces of the show because it was on right before Battlestar Galactica on Sunday nights. TV was really nuts about their time slot of 7:00 to 8:00PM being The Family Hour and the shows airing at that time were generally squeaky clean and fairly bland. The appeal of the blown-dry, silk shirted detective siblings were lost on me and the mysteries were never very compelling. It felt like Scooby Do without the talking dog, the Mystery Machine or the haunted house trappings. It was just there filling up a time slot that had to be endured until Galactica came on which was like Methadone for Star Wars addicts. It was no where near as good as the Star Wars movie, but if you got a little of that space opera action, you could maintain until the sequel came out whenever that was going to be.

After Admiral Cartwright and the crew of the Battlestar Ponderosa took out some stock footage of the same banking and turning Cylon raiders and creeped the ragtag fleet a little further across the universe, it was usually time for bed and back to the stultifying boredom of school the next day. Sundays sucked!
