Blue Sisters

At first I thought these two were mother and daughter, but after looking at the photo for a while and consulting with Tina, we decided that these two are probably the sisters of John B. Capewell.

Back in February, I posted a picture of John’s parents and siblings. In a post last April, Harry Chambers did some digging and provided me the names of the family although outside of John and his youngest sister, I’m not sure who is who, but I’m making guesses.
In this picture, the woman is either Margaret, Caroline or Frances. The girl is Edna Lavinia Capewell also known as Honey. They are seated in the lodgepole chair where John Capewell has shot many of his subjects. They are probably in a portion of John’s yard in Westville, New Jersey.

This particular negative turned yellow over the years. When I inverted it in Photoshop, it turned this very pleasing shade of blue.

Here’s a version of the negative where I did my regular procedure of adjusting the levels in the red, blue and green channels. It has color but it’s closer to a more neutral, black and white image.

As with all of the photographs in the Capewell Collection Glass Negative Collection, I placed this 5″ x 7″ glass negative on a lightbox and shot it with a digital camera locked down on a tripod. The “processing” was done digitally on a Mac using Adobe Photoshop.

Here’s a pic of Caroline wearing the same shirt and necklace. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=capewell&GSiman=1&GSbyrel=all&GSdyrel=all&GSst=6&GScntry=4&GSob=n&GRid=21494867&df=all&

What an age we live in, right? To be able to pull up a 100 year old pic in a few seconds.
