Fold Up Pencil Case

This is another pencil pouch I cooked up, unlike the last one I made that rolled up, this one folds flat. I used plastic canvas to add some stability for when it’s tossed into a bag. Folded up, it measures 8″ x 6″ – but you can change the size depending on the tools you use.

Cut a piece of fabric 14 3/4″ x 16 1/2″.

Cut a piece of felt 12″ x 4 1/4″ position it 1/8″ from the right side and 1/4″ from the bottom. Sew around the sides and bottom with a 1/4″ seam allowance.

Sew vertical lines in the felt – I sewed various widths according to the sizes of the pens, pencils, and rulers I use.

Fold fabric in half, wrong side facing out.

Sew along the blue dashed line – again using a 1/4″ seam allowance.

Turn fabric right side out. Cut two pieces of the plastic canvas 6″ x 8″ and insert them inside of the fabric. Sew a vertcal line in the center separating the pieces of canvas. Sew another vertical line directly to the left of the felt. Cut a 3″ loop (I used a dress shoe lace). Turn the ends of the fabric in, place the loop in the center and pin – you’ll want a 1/2″ of the ends inside the fabric sandwich. Sew your final vertical line 1/4″ from the edge, catching the loop in the stitches.

Line up a 1″ button and hand sew into place.
