School is Out

Westville School

Back in the 1980s, I went to art school, and I along with all of the other illustration majors were required to take a course in photography. We had to shoot the photos as well as process the negatives and make the prints. I don’t recall what the particulars of the class assignments were although I can tell from looking at the negatives which were the assignments and which ones were shot just to finish off a roll. The shots to finish the roll are a lot more interesting.

While my fellow students mostly resided and shot their photographs in Philadelphia, I lived and did most of my shooting in and around Westville, NJ. Above is the shuttered Westville School. I think I went here briefly when I was attending either kindergarten or grade school.

Those old schools are always sad to see boarded up…

I think the building is in use again but not as a school.

It’s sad to see the school boarded up. I have fond memories of that school and the teachers and classmates. And Mr. Green, the crossing guard and janitor. He was a sweet man.

Thanks for the memories, Terri. I went there briefly, and then we were all switched to Parkview for kindergarten.

My wife’s (Debbie (Pallante) Hill) Aunt Mary Pallante was Principal at School 3. My mother Emily (Thomas) Hill went to school at School 1 at the top of High St.

Chestnut House was a fine restaurant, I ate there several times as a young adult. I also went to the Crown Point Inn manyl times to dance and listen to the Tempts.

Were The Tempts a cover band?

Went there 1st through 4th grade. Remember being in Mrs. Bennett’s
Class when JFK was assassinated. Very fond memories of Mrs. Maxon and Mrs. Pallante’s
Classes. I think Mrs. Mehorter(spl?) taught 2nd grade.

Wow! Thanks for the visit and the memories.
