An Afternoon in 1981

Broad and Locust 1981Here’s another Photo Elective shot by Tina Garceau. As I’ve said before, all sophomore students majoring in illustration at The Philadelphia College of Art were required to take a minor course in photography where the students would take and process black and white, 35mm images. I lived in South Jersey and commuted to school, while Tina lived in and shot her photographs around the school’s downtown Philadelphia campus. Here she has a shot captured about a block away from the building that housed most of the art school’s classes. Generally, this area hasn’t changed much, but the cars, clothes and defunct businesses give one a sense of this being some time ago.

  1. Old NFO says:

Looks like an officer actually walking a beat there too.

  2. Joe_Williams says:

Yeah, that’s sort of a rarity. More bicycle cops nowadays.

  3. Tina says:

We have a few beat cops in our neighborhood.
