Deck the Halls

The tree is up. This year we decided to go with the Evergleam aluminum Christmas tree. It was manufactured in Manitowoc, Wisconsin in 1958. They were sold in Montgomery Ward catalogs and a six foot tree like ours went for $100 – a lot of money back then! Aluminum trees were advertised as futuristic, low maintenance, with no messy needles, no allergies, no drying out, and creating a fire hazard like a fresh cut tree. However, stringing lights on them was a safety concern, instead they were lit by a spinning color wheel placed on the floor. We love our shiny tree!

  1. Old NFO says:

    I miss ours… sigh

  2. Tina says:

We inherited ours from an elderly woman who was a neighbor of Joe’s dad, which is why it’s in such good shape. You can buy them new – Target sells them.
