You Look Like a GANGSTER!

Here ya go, kid! Do me a favor — run this across the street for me.

This is another one of those advertisements that ran in comics for years appealing to the entrepreneurial zeal that kids used to have a generation or so ago. This is back when if a kid wanted or needed money there were paper routes, grocery delivery or lawns to mow. They all earned chump change compared to the king’s ransom Carl B. Rudd, Jr. appears to be dragging in as an Exceptional Blair Dealer in The Buckeye State.Cleaning Up at 11Fantastic Four #105Of course, this was well before a series of mass panic attacks promulgated by daytime talk show hosts made parents obsessively fear that their children were in constant danger of winding up on the side of a milk carton. When was the last time you saw a kid delivering papers or selling candy bars for school or the little league? Sorry, Kid, stranger danger trumps your ambition. Stay in your room

This ad appeared in Fantastic Four No. 105 published by Marvel Comics in 1970, and judging from Carl’s swingin’ Fedora, the ad probably ran in comics for a good ten years before that.
