Heaven on $5 a day?

Ever since my wife picked up a cheap, wire-bound, scratch pad from a Target store for me as a Christmas gift, I now take cheap sketchbooks seriously. Throughout the years I may have bought every name brand of artist drawing pads available in art supply stores, but nothing has brought me as much joy as an anonymous doodle pad that had a blank cover. Now whenever I see cheap sketch pads at stores that would not otherwise sell art supplies, I don’t ignore them. I never know what may become the next Sketchbook from Heaven!

The pad of paper pictured above is from Five Below which is a chain of discount stores. It is an enormous 18-inches by 12-inches and only set me back $5. That’s pretty good for 100 sheets of paper particularly that size.

Will it be as good as the little sketchbook from Target? It’s huge so it’s not as portable as the little book, but I couldn’t pass it up for five bucks. Only time and some drawing will tell.

    Interesting size…

It is a weird size for a sketchbook, but 18 x 12 is a typical digital press size for running 11×17 or letter size with bleed. It was probably repurposed from a paper house.
