Push Carts and Produce

In the early days of South Philly, Italian immigrant produce vendors would wheel their wares around the neighborhood or alleys in push carts like this. Many of them would rise before dawn and push their carts to Delaware Avenue to load up from the ships docked there. Eventually, they moved their businesses from small streets to 9th Street which became known as The Italian Market. If this push cart could talk!
