The holiday season was upon us and it was time to make the annual Christmas card. I took the bull by the horns, I had grand plans, yes indeed! It was all perfectly art directed in my head – neutral backdrop, white lights, a bespectacled Lloyd in a red shirt mugging for the camera. Oh, I almost forgot – it was going to snow too!

Kraft paper taped to the wall, lights hung, one camera on a tripod, one handheld, one 12 year old, and a big bag of confetti from the dollar store – what could possibly go wrong?

First of all, Lloyd is the boy with a thousand cowlicks! Those cowlicks needed to be tamed by a dollop of hair gel. Second, the falling snowflake effect wasn’t working due to the fact that the camera wasn’t fast enough. The gel in Lloyd’s hair acted like an adhesive to the white confetti we were sprinkling overhead. Joe and I took turns shooting dozens of photos and the confetti was everywhere!

I was beginning to think this wasn’t such a hot idea. The photo session was over, and Joe standing on a chair, grabbed my camera to squeeze off a few shots post photo session. This was the photo I decided to go with.
