There’s something about gingham that reminds me of cheerful, home sewn kitchen curtains and picnics. With that in mind, and warmer weather just around the corner, I thought I’d make an iPod pouch to take along when one is dining al fresco. I made it roomy enough to accommodate a set of keys, loose bills, earbuds, and a few packets of travel sized sunblock. This pouch has a felt pocket inside to protect your iPod from getting scratched, and is an easy project to make. I thought I’d try something different and close up the sides with a blanket stitch, adding a rustic, outdoorsy touch!<\/p>\n

\"PiPLineUp\"<\/p>\n

Measure and cut out 2 pieces of fabric, quilt batting, and felt.<\/p>\n

\"PiPFelt\"<\/p>\n

Position felt 1″ from the bottom of one of the pieces of fabric and pin into place. Sew a line straight across. Line up fabric (with the right sides facing) with the batting on the bottom, pin together.<\/p>\n

\"PiPPerimeter\"<\/p>\n

Sew around the perimeter using a 1\/4″ seam allowance – note that the open end is near the felt. Clip the corners, and turn right side out. Use a knitting needle or chopstick to push out the corners. Turn the open end under and sew straight across.<\/p>\n

\"PiPFold\"<\/p>\n

Allow 1 1\/2″ for the flap, fold pouch and pin to secure. Machine stitch or use embroidery floss to blanket stitch up the sides of the pouch. Sew some velcro or a snap to close the pouch.<\/p>\n
