Before the internet, cable TV, Martha Stewart, and Pinterest there was Women’s Household<\/em> – a wonderful little magazine published on newsprint in the mid sixties. It featured articles on sewing, knitting, gardening, cooking and crafts. They included a column where readers exchanged recipes, searched for pen pals, fashioned purses out of plastic bleach bottles, and discussed their hobbies.<\/p>\n

The cover story is not about Elvis devotees, but a group of ladies who fabricated handmade rugs. They sold 325 rugs in their first year – one even graced the floor in President Lyndon Johnson’s boyhood home!<\/p>\n
