I haven&#8217;t made them in a while, so when the temperature dropped the other day, I grabbed a mixing bowl and fired up the oven. Post pool, the boy needs something to snack on after he wolfs down three bananas, and a couple of peaches. I sense a growth spurt coming on&#8230;\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1\/2 cup butter<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 cup butter flavored shortening<\/li>\n<li>3\/4 cup packed light brown sugar<\/li>\n<li>1 1\/2 teaspoons vanilla extract<\/li>\n<li>1 egg<\/li>\n<li>1 3\/4 cups flour<\/li>\n<li>1 teaspoon baking soda<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 teaspoon kosher salt<\/li>\n<li>1 1\/2 cups M&amp;Ms<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px; color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; line-height: 24px;\">1. In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter, shortening, brown sugar and vanilla extract until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>2. In a separate bowl mix the flour, baking soda and salt together. Add to the butter &#8211; sugar mixture. Fold in 1 cup of M&amp;Ms. Cover dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for one hour.<\/p>\n<p>3. Preheat oven to 350\u00ba. Shape dough into 1 inch balls and place 2 inches apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Use the remaining 1\/2 cup of M&amp;Ms to decorate the tops of the cookies. Bake for 11 to 13 minutes until golden. Let sit for 5 minutes and transfer to a rack to cool.
