\"drafting-table-1982\"<\/a>Here’s another Photo Elective<\/em> shot that seems more like an act of desperation than an intentional attempt at art.<\/p>\n

My guess<\/em> is that it was the night before the class, and I had to fill out the roll of film with something — anything! <\/em>What’s interesting is that it seems to show my state of mind at the time. I was a dyed-in-the-wool horror fanatic at the time so I had a subscription to Fangoria<\/em> magazine which was touting the non-slasher, Invasion of the Body Snatcher<\/em>s knockoff Halloween III. <\/em>The small change spread out along the table was all I had to live off of that week. Fortunately I had a coupon from Roy Rogers<\/em> which meant fine dining at their establishment at 15th and Chestnut when I was feeling peckish between classes. There’s some color pencils with a bitchin’<\/em> Thrush<\/strong> logo sticker, a lead pointer, keys, some doodles, French curves and a Philadelphia College of Art I.D. card all set upon a drafting table my Dad built for me while I was in Junior High School (I still have it and use it. Thanks, Dad!<\/em>) It’s a completely pretentious arrangement, but now I find it an interesting picture of the time.<\/p>\n

The Photo Elective<\/h2>\n

Back in the 1980s, I went to art school, and I along with all of the other illustration majors<\/strong> were required to take a minor course in photography. We had to shoot the photos as well as process the negatives and make prints. I don\u2019t recall what the particulars of the class assignments were although I can tell from looking at the negatives which were the assignments and which ones were shot just to finish off a roll. The shots to finish a roll are a lot more interesting. While my fellow students mostly resided and shot their photographs in the vibrant metropolis of Philadelphia, I lived and did most of my shooting in and around the staid and solid small town of Westville, New Jersey<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n
