They are photos of a defunct greasy spoon known as the <em>Murphy House<\/em> that sat before a swampy marsh up in the area where Westville ended.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><a title=\"Murphy House during Construction\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/willceau\/15322730787\/in\/album-72157648590880016\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3934\/15322730787_c7481e1397_z.jpg?resize=640%2C386&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Murphy House during Construction\" width=\"640\" height=\"386\" \/><\/a>The place was up for sale when I shot these negatives back in 1982, but I doubt if the ongoing highway and bridge construction did much to attract potential buyers.<script src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><br \/>\n<a title=\"Park N' Eat\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/willceau\/2536950511\/in\/album-72157648590880016\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3199\/2536950511_e1596565a8_z.jpg?resize=640%2C367&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Park N' Eat\" width=\"640\" height=\"367\" \/><\/a>It sort of reminds me of <em>Psycho.<\/em> Everything was fine for small businesses like this and the Bates Motel up the road a piece until the new highway came in and business dried up. We had to shoot the photos as well as process the negatives and make prints. I don\u2019t recall what the particulars of the class assignments were although I can tell from looking at the negatives which were the assignments and which ones were shot just to finish off a roll. The shots to finish a roll are a lot more interesting.
