This cake\u00a0is dense, with caramelized pears &#8211; perfect for after dinner, but would do in a pinch if you just so happened to run\u00a0out of oatmeal! \u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1\/4 cup butter, melted<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 cup light brown sugar<\/li>\n<li>2 pears, peeled, cored, and cut into 1\/2&#8243; wedges<\/li>\n<li>1 1\/3 cups flour<\/li>\n<li>1 teaspoon baking powder<\/li>\n<li>1\/8 teaspoon salt<\/li>\n<li>6 tablespoons butter, softened<\/li>\n<li>1 cup light brown sugar<\/li>\n<li>2 large eggs<\/li>\n<li>2 teaspoons vanilla extract<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 cup milk<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>Preheat oven to 325\u00ba, grease a 9&#8243; cake pan.<\/li>\n<li>Pour melted butter in prepared pan, and sprinkle 1\/2 cup brown sugar over the butter.\u00a0\u00a0Arrange pear slices in pan, and set aside.<\/li>\n<li>In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.<\/li>\n<li>In a large bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar, add the eggs one at a time, and vanilla.<\/li>\n<li>Add the flour mixture and the milk, scraping down the sides of the bowl, until the batter is smooth.<\/li>\n<li>Spoon batter over the pears, and gently smooth out the top.<\/li>\n<li>Bake for 55 to 60 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
