Don&#8217;t be put off by the fact that this beef stew takes five hours in the oven, it makes the stewing beef fork tender and flavorful. A good rainy day, stay at home, cooking project &#8211; this stew pairs well with <a href=\"https:\/\/willceau.com\/news\/2012\/11\/20\/popovers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">popovers<\/a>! <!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 1\/2 pounds stewing beef, cut into 1&#8243;chunks<\/li>\n<li>2 cups russet potatoes, peeled and diced into 1&#8243; chunks<\/li>\n<li>1 cup celery, chopped<\/li>\n<li>1 1\/2 cups carrots, peeled and cut<\/li>\n<li>1 large yellow onion, chopped<\/li>\n<li>2 bay leaves<\/li>\n<li>3 cups tomato juice<\/li>\n<li>1 tablespoon granulated sugar<\/li>\n<li>1 teaspoon kosher salt<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 teaspoon pepper<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 teaspoon chili powder<\/li>\n<li>1 tablespoon flour<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>Preheat oven to 250\u00ba.<\/li>\n<li>Mix all of the ingredients in a Dutch oven, cover with a lid, and place in the oven for five hours.<\/li>\n<li>Stir twice during the cooking process, and remove the bay leaves before serving.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Stews are great when the weather turns chilly.
