I popped it into an optical drive to see what was on it. It only works on tray loading players. You were out of luck with slot loading readers.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, it turned out that I burned a PDF sampler of my artwork onto the disk as a promotional piece of which this was the cover.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Terrific Comics\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/willceau\/49859898221\/in\/dateposted-public\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/49859898221_0812c9dd02_z.jpg?resize=427%2C640&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Terrific Comics\" width=\"427\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>I was going to adhere my business card to the top of the CD-R, and the editor or art director would be so impressed by this miniaturized miracle of the digital age, that I would be buried with freelance assignments.<\/p>\n<p><em>Not quite.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Most art directors and editors were never the most technically adept members of a creative department. Placing the disk properly into the tray of an optical drive probably threw them for a loop. Was it worth a call to the the guy in the I.T. department? These pricey mini-disks were deposited into a desk drawer to be forgotten or trashed altogether.<\/p>\n<p><em>It seemed like a good idea at the time.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I produced this promotional piece the old fashioned way.
