There is nothing special about that particular issue, but the advertisement above for comic conventions caught my eye. Once there, I rushed back up to the 13th floor office of the school&#8217;s quasi-newspaper <a href=\"https:\/\/willceau.com\/news\/2010\/07\/12\/down-in-space-its-always-1982\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>DUCKWORK<\/em><\/a> to see the fellows that put together that publication. They were excited about publishing future issues of the paper for which I had a few ideas, but they were more excited about the upcoming <em>Creation Convention<\/em> where they were going to have a table to promote <em><strong>COMICO!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a title=\"ARCO Park\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/willceau\/42118692680\/in\/album-72157603900566867\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/live.staticflickr.com\/860\/42118692680_987f85c814_z.jpg?resize=640%2C418&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"ARCO Park\" width=\"640\" height=\"418\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Philadelphia College of Art Campus circa 1982-83<\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>COMICO? What&#8217;s a Comico?<\/p>\n<p>To their credit, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.captainvisual.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gerry Giovinco<\/a> and<\/em> <em>Bill Cucinotta<\/em> probably mentioned the name of their future comic publishing company more than once, and I probably figured, <em>&#8220;Yeah, yeah. We&#8217;re in art school. We&#8217;re all going to be rich and famous. Sure.&#8221;<\/em> BUT these guys meant it, and they were going for it! Renting a table at a comic convention was a big deal! These guys were making an announcement to the comic buying world! Eventually they did make a big splash publishing independent comics. This was the beginning &#8212; Comico&#8217;s primordial past!<\/p>\n<p><em>Ye of little faith&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>So I had to attend that convention. I remember hanging out with the Comico crew and wandering the floors scoping out movie memorabilia that was not to be found anywhere other than at conventions. It was a good time.
