\"\"Here’s another Photo Elective<\/strong><\/a> shot by Tina Garceau<\/strong><\/em><\/a>. As I’ve written before, all sophomore students majoring in illustration at The Philadelphia College of Art<\/em> were required to take a minor course in photography where the students would take and process black and white, 35mm images. At the time, it seemed like a needlessly pricey course that stood in the way of what illustrators really wanted to do which was to draw and paint. The illustration students didn’t necessarily want to be there, and the photography students saw the illustrators as an intrusion on their territory. The course was something that just had to be endured for a semester.<\/p>\n

Despite the trepidation some compelling images were made. The sad thing is that we didn’t make a whole lot more! <\/p>\n

Everyone taking the course had to shoot a self-portrait as an assignment. Tina took some terrific shots and seemed to have had a good time with the assignment.<\/p>\n

Years later I scanned the 35mm negatives she shot and did a bit of “processing”<\/em> with Affinity Photo. I had some fun with gradient maps in that program and cooked up the image I posted above.
