The man seated to the left of the photo next to <strong>John B. Capewell<\/strong> on the right is <strong>Adolph Tumser.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Tina was doing an Internet search for <strong>John B. Capewell<\/strong>\u00a0 and <strong>Westville, NJ<\/strong> when she came across this <strong>Unsolved Mysteries<\/strong> page. Is this taken in the Olean area? I am guessing at the sender&#8217;s surname and the town but the postcard was mailed in August 1908. The front of the photo postcard says &#8220;How is things in Pa. How is Alick [Alex] and the rest of the boys. Give my regards to them all. For old memories sake.\u00a0 John B. Capewell ???\u00a0 South Westville ???<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It asks if anyone out there has information on the photo or the people in the photo and included a contact email address.<\/p>\n<p>Tina asked me if I recognized it, and I did. I went through my digital shots of the negatives, and, sure enough, I had it!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a title=\"Tumser and Capewell by willceau, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/willceau\/6796523748\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7196\/6796523748_a4abb831e0_z.jpg?resize=640%2C463\" alt=\"Tumser and Capewell\" width=\"640\" height=\"463\" \/><\/a>She had a print and I had the <em>original negative!<\/em> I fired off an email to the supplied address, and I was soon corresponding with <strong>Ann Tumser<\/strong>. She filled me in on some details of <strong>Adolph Tumser<\/strong>. She wrote:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The postcard was sent by John B. Capewell to Adolph Tumser, my deceased husband&#8217;s great uncle, and Adolph is 2<sup>nd<\/sup> from left.\u00a0 Adolph&#8217;s granddaughter (whom I&#8217;ve never met) sent me the scanned photo. Two other people have stated that this photo was taken in Rock City, NY, near Olean, NY. He immigrated sometime in the 1870&#8217;s.<\/li>\n<li>1880 US census in Olean, NY\u00a0 farmer<\/li>\n<li>1892 &#8211; Adolph Tumser will leave on Monday for New York whence he will set sail June 15 for Costa Rica, Central America, with a colonization company.\u009d<\/li>\n<li>1892 &#8211; Oct. 17 &#8211; \u00c2\u00a0returned from Costa Rica<\/li>\n<li>1893\u00a0 Oct. 31\u00a0 married at St Mary&#8217;s Catholic Church to Katharine Leighton<\/li>\n<li>1895 bartender<\/li>\n<li>1897\u00a0 clerk<\/li>\n<li>1900 US census in Olean, NY sales in cigars<\/li>\n<li>1901\u00a0 cigar maker<\/li>\n<li>1902 clerk<\/li>\n<li>1910 US census in Port Allegany, PA\u00a0 cigar maker in cigar store<\/li>\n<li>1920 US census in Port Allegany, PA\u00a0 laborer<\/li>\n<li>1933 obituary says he owned and conducted a union cigar store\u00a0 later employed by the Allegany Window Glass Plant honorary member of the Star Hose Co. and member of Knights of Pythias and Elks of Olean<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure what Tumser&#8217;s connection was to Capewell although it does say he eventually worked in glass.
