The Capewell Glass Negative Collection – Snowy Self-Portraits

Here are a couple more negatives from The Capewell Glass Negative Collection which were shot about a 100 years ago. We’re continuing with our winter theme, and this time, I’ve chosen a couple of self-portraits of the photographer, John B Capewell, in the snow.

Pictured above is the full 5″ x 7″ negative which I shot with a digital camera and inverted in Photoshop. I imagine that it was hard to ignore the beauty of these trees as they were after a blizzard.

Here is Capewell in another cold but more barren setting.

Capewell and family lived in Westville, New Jersey which is in the Southern portion of the State just across the Delaware River from the teeming metropolis that was Philadelphia. These photographs were probably shot in New Jersey after a particularly spectacular winter storm. I’m not sure if both shots are from the same storm being that Capewell like most men at the time had a penchant for conservative dark suits.
