It’s not necessarily a ringing endorsement of the product that Chipper is selling, but it seems he has come to a greater understanding of human nature and of himself.

Recruiting kids to sell either seeds or greeting cards seemed to be a constant in comic books back when they were printed on newsprint and could be had at any newsstand or convenience store for pocket change. As advertisers these companies must have been the whales of the trade always splurging for a full page ad and usually a coveted back cover. It must have worked because they ran for years, and the artwork, prizes and testimonials were often updated. I always wondered how many seeds even an ambitious kid could sell. Did anybody ever actually win that snazzy bicycle?
This ad appeared in Worlds Unknown N0. 7 published by Marvel Comics in 1974. It was an adaptation of Ray Harryhausen’s fantasy film classic The Golden Voyage of Sinbad released that same year.
