Is it over yet?

14 years ago when I purchased my first Roku box, the whole concept of streaming video was in its infancy and it was great! For a fraction of the cost of a cable television subscription I could watch what I wanted when I wanted. Sadly, the notion of streaming caught on in a big way and streaming started to mutate into what it was meant to replace — cable TV. The advertisers followed the eyeballs of their cherished demographic groups as they turned to streaming and hammered my once unsullied streams unmercifully with wall-to-wall pharmaceutical and political advertising. Fortunately, the political ads will come to an end today at least until the next election cycle. The same can’t be said for the drug companies.

I think it’s time to fire up the DVD player. Truly ad-free entertainment! Heaven knows I have enough disks.
