Apple Pear Tart

After baking dozens of cookies for Christmas, a meat pie, and a turkey the size of a Volkswagen – I decided to make a tart. Good way to empty out the fruit bowl on the kitchen table and have something delicious to snack on!

  • one crust pie dough
  • 2 MacIntosh apples
  • 3 Granny Smith apples
  • 2 pears
  • 1/4 cup cranberries – optional
  • 1/3 cup cinnamon sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons butter
  1. Roll out dough and place in an 8″ tart pan, trim off the excess.
  2. Peel MacIntosh apples, cut into chunks, and place in a pot with an inch of water. Let them simmer over medium heat until softened like an applesauce. Drain well and let cool.
  3. Peel the remaining apples and the pears. Quarter, remove core and slice thin.
  4. Preheat oven to 375º.
  5. Spread the applesauce on the bottom of the tart pan.
  6. Fan the apple slices around the outside of the pan, then fan the pears on the inside. Toss in a few cranberries if desired.
  7. Roll out the remainder of the dough and make the lattice.
  8. Dot with butter and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
  9. Bake for 1 hour.
