…or make that Giant McNichols!
Yes, it’s a poster of the famous McNichol siblings, Kristy and Jimmy! 2 feet by 6 feet of McNichols to adorn your hip, happening and far out bedroom wall! Every kid in America is going to want an almost life-size poster of a brother and sister that appeared in television series here and there and the occasional PG rated matinee movie. Maybe that’s what their agent told them as they went off for the photo shoot.
The problem is that the poster makers weren’t thinking ahead. They could have done a series of famous sibling posters possibly facing in the opposite direction so they could chicken fight with Kristy and Jimmy. There could have been Justine and Jason Bateman! Or Beau and Jeff Bridges! The one I would have paid for would have been Shirley MacLaine and Warren Beatty!
This was part of a full page ad selling celebrity posters. I guess they figured that the Farrah Fawcett poster did so well, that they might make a couple of bucks splashing other stars and starlets onto posters. It looks like they were hoping lightning would strike twice by putting Farrah on another poster along with her replacement on Charlie’s Angels, Cheryl Ladd!
But the McNichols? I don’t doubt that they had a fan following, but was it really worth producing a giant poster of them? I wonder if either Kristy or Jimmy have a bunch of these posters in the back of a closet or in an attic somewhere.
The FULL COLOR POSTER SPECTACULAR ad was in Godzilla King of the Monsters No. 21 published by Marvel Comics in 1979. Marvel licensed the character and attempted to blend the giant Japanese behemoth into the Marvel universe. Other Marvel characters like the Fantastic Four and SHIELD regularly appeared in it and attempted to mitigate the problem of a giant monster wandering around and wrecking every city he visited. In this issue, Godzilla has been shrunken and sent back in time using Dr. Doom’s time machine.
I wonder if either Kristy or Jimmy have a bunch of these posters in the back of a closet or in an attic somewhere.
Now ya got me wondering where the Mothra chicks are.
The Twins from Infant Island? They were last seen on Ed Sullivan:
They seem taller on TV.
Ya think the scatting is what really killed Mothra ?
(Picture it….he was trying to keep the beat and flew sideways into a mountain.)
