Back in 1982 I went wandering along Crown Point Road to see what I could see and hopefully take a few frames of 35mm Pan-X film worth the effort of developing them. I think I was trying to shoot dead things spending a lot of time in graveyards or junkyards or businesses which had given up the ghost which appears to be the situation in the photo above. It looks like a garage that started to gather stuff that may be useful one day. You’ll never know when you’ll need a door hinge from a delivery truck. Sadly, that day may have never come.
I’m not sure where this was — somewhere along Crown Point Road.
The Photo Elective
Back in the 1980s, I went to art school, and I along with all of the other illustration majors were required to take a minor course in photography. We had to shoot the photos as well as process the negatives and make prints. I don’t recall what the particulars of the class assignments were although I can tell from looking at the negatives which were the assignments and which ones were shot just to finish off a roll. The shots to finish a roll are a lot more interesting. While my fellow students mostly resided and shot their photographs in the vibrant metropolis of Philadelphia, I lived and did most of my shooting in and around the staid and solid small town of Westville, New Jersey.
That was a long ago abandoned gas station in Verga I believe.
Thanks, Chucky! I was hoping somebody would clear that up.
Crown point Inn went there in the 70’s to see Jimmy moore & his band play They were the coolest & did all the good rock & roll songs we loved to dance to until closing time .GOOD MEMORIES.
Thanks, Pat!
Don McManamy says:
Where W. Deptford H.S. is located was once an apple orchard. Yes, I do remember that gas station. This goes back to the 50’s.
Thanks for the info!
Good to see you’re back submitting photos, Joe. I really looked forward to your serial presentations of the Copeland Glass plate historic pictures. I loved trying to identify the locations in the pictures.
They are more like “encore presentation.” I wish I had more photos to share. Thanks for looking.
