Davy Jones’ Locker

woltzerI came upon this fantastic memorial during a stroll through Fernwood Cemetery in Lansdowne, PA just outside of the Philadelphia city limits.

Sadly, I couldn’t find much on the late Herman Wolter despite the heroic monument. I found only a smattering of information on the internet. There was a comment on the Weird US site claiming “he was a diver in the Philadelphia and Delaware River region,” and “he was one of the forefathers in underwater exploration and diving.”

    Neat monument!

Yeah — a guy is memorialized with a life-size statue. Nicely done, but you think there would be more info on the guy. His monument remains, but what’s his story?

That cemetery is huge and dates back to 1870. I’ll have to do more exploring there to see what else I can find.

This is my great great grandfather. We have plenty of information on his life and career. Fascinating stuff!

Great! I would love to learn more!
