Superman’s Mustache

A police woman shares a telephone receiver with homicide detective Sam Haynes played by a mustachioed George Reeves in The Blue Gardenia. The Blue Gardenia is a terrific film noir directed by the legendary Fritz Lang and stars an unusual cast of Anne Baxter, Richard Conte, Raymond Burr and features a musical interlude with Nat King Cole. George Reeves is a supporting character but stands out in his role. This was filmed around the same time as he was playing Superman on television.

When Reeves had to play Superman, he probably just shaved unlike Henry Cavill.

Rather than recap the plot, just go watch it! It’s available to stream on Tubi which is a free, ad-supported streaming channel which has a pretty decent selection of movies unlike most other free streaming channels and a lot of pay channels.

  1. Old NFO says:

Huh, didn’t catch that he was in that. Now I gotta go watch it again.

  2. Joe says:

It’s not a bad movie. Reeves jaunty manner as the detective is similar to how he played Clark Kent.
