A Cousin Among the Corn
This is an as yet identified girl that shows up in quite a few of the glass negatives shot by John Capewell. When I was first examining the photos, I assumed that she was Capewell’s daughter, but records indicate that … Continue reading

Sailor Suits by the Water’s Edge
Here’s another photo of Capewell and his family once again wearing forlorn expressions similar to the sour pusses in last week’s post. Perhaps John Capewell was getting arty with his portraiture. Henry and John, Sr. stare right at the camera … Continue reading
Why So Serious?
John Capewell (the man in the middle) has taken photos similar to this before where he’s managed to include himself in a picture of his immediate family, but I’m not sure why everyone is wearing such a sour expression. It’s … Continue reading
Family in an Overgrown Yard
Here’s another photograph featuring photographer John Capewell, his wife Ella, and what I am assuming were either his or her relatives. I don’t know who these people are, but there are a few faces that look familiar from some of … Continue reading
Couple in the Garden
Here’s another photograph shot by John Capewell of which I have very little information. I’m hoping that somebody might recognize this older couple who seem to be proud of their flowers in what looks to be the backyard of a … Continue reading
Ella’s Side of the Family
This looks to be Ella Capewell’s side of the family with her mother and father seated in the foreground; I’m guessing it’s her brother standing to the left, and on the right smiling at her husband, the photographer, is Ella.
The Larkin Method
When I first saw this negative shot by John B. Capewell, I thought I was looking at a food stand or a ticket booth at a carnival, but on closer examination, it turned out to be something else.
Sweethearts
Here’s another glass negative from the Capewell Collection. This one appears to be of one of John’s brothers and his sweetheart.
On the Fence
Here’s another group shot photographed in the early twentieth century by John Capewell who has included himself in the picture. He’s the second from the left and has rendered himself blurry from the sudden motion of tugging the string that … Continue reading
