These fellows don’t look like Capewell or any one of his relatives, but they may have been doing work on his house in Southern New Jersey. Unlike the subjects in last week’s post, these guys are smiling. They must be amused that somebody would want to do something as novel as take their picture while they work their craft.
Here’s the entire 7 inch by 5 inch glass negative which shows a little more of the yard. I’m guessing that it’s John B. Capewells house on Broadway in Westville, New Jersey.
As with all of the photographs in the Capewell Collection Glass Negative Collection, I placed this 5 inch x 7 inch glass negative on a lightbox and shot it with a digital camera locked down on a tripod. The processing was done digitally on a Mac using Adobe Photoshop.
