Looking South – Christmas Decor

I was out and about yesterday morning in the freezing cold, but this wreath stopped me dead in my tracks. It’s got everything – pinecones, bells, poinsettia, reindeer, holly berries, and a pretty red bow! It was most likely purchased at Woolworth’s back when LBJ was president, and adorned the door of this home every year since. It reminded me of when we first moved to South Philly and our neighbors would decorate their windows with elves, Santas, and Putz houses – not trying to be retro or kitschy, it was just what they had on hand. And it was fantastic! Sadly, a lot of them have passed away, and the pixie elves and bottle brush trees have been replaced by giant inflatable Grinches. So thanks Wharton Street resident for the memory jog!
