A Hero is a Man Who Does What He Can

Today marks eighteen years since the tragedy of September 11th. I think most Americans will remember where they were, and what they were doing, when they heard the news. I was in the kitchen that morning feeding my eighteen month old son, when a friend called and told me to turn on the TV. I did so just in time to see the second plane hit.

As the horrific events of that day unfolded, so did the stories of ordinary people who came together to help the injured, grieving, and stranded. BOATLIFT – An Untold Tale of 9/11 Resilience is a documentary short about a call put out by The U.S. Coastguard, asking for volunteers to evacuate Lower Manhattan. The response was amazing, hundreds of tugboats, ferries, and fishing boats rushed to the scene, and with no game plan – managed to rescue five hundred thousand people.

September 11th will never be forgotten, nor will the people affected by this heinous act of terror. Take a moment today to remember those who lost their lives as well as their family and friends, and find inspiration in the stories of the heroes who made a difference that day.
