Doodle Tuesday • Demonic Delineations

I’ve been bopping back and forth between digital illustrations and hand drawings of late enjoying both which is kind of weird. It feels like working digitally and by hand are two different skill sets requiring different ways of thinking. I thought it would be tricky juggling both analog and digital at the same time, but here I am.

In this post I will be dealing with my more typical doodles which are pencil and ink on paper — real world stuff.

Below is a pen and ink drawing I did in my 7″ x 10″ Canson XL Mixed Media pad. It features the Teenage Beast as he has transformed into one of his final demonic forms and a hapless good guy who is having a bad day. I am still working out the characters and the “choreography” or stage direction of the page, and I’ve gone through a number of variations of this sequence. It’s not quite there, but I like the look of the monster.

I’m also using a number of different sketchbooks at the same time. The fleeing heroine was done in a 6″x 9″ UCreate sketchbook I got at a big box store. It was cheap, but the paper takes the ink fairly well. It’s a decent sketchbook for drawings or notes.

I am still working out directions for the story as I scratch out these illustrations. I’m not sure how and when I will proceed with the “real” version of this story. I feel I have to work out a few more puzzle pieces. I’m enjoying the process and don’t have a deadline so I’m not in a rush.
