You Load 16 Tons and What Do You Get?

The Lads are back among the rocks again, and John B. Capewell has rejoined them in front of the camera.

You’ll notice that Mr. Capewell is a little blurry in this shot and his hand is a blur of motion from activating the camera’s shutter with an attached string.

The fellow on the right looks to be the man who was brandishing the small pistol in the earlier photo I posted of Capewell and the Lads.

It also looks like Capewell’s friend Adolph Tumser is back for this shot.
Here is the whole glass negative:

I’m not sure where this shot was taken. It was suggested that it was Rock City Park in Olean, NY, but I got a comment from another reader suggesting that it was not. Where ever it is, it’s certainly not Westville, NJ where Capewell lived with his family. Westville, like most of the area in the Philadelphia area, is fairly flat. Capewell may have had to travel a bit to get this site, and he made sure to bring along his camera and glass negatives.

Before I started making adjustments to this digital image of the glass negative, It had an interesting bluish tint. Below is the same shot without the adjustments.
