Next week Lloyd graduates from 8th grade. Such occasions call for an outfit. I really didn’t want to buy him a pair of dress shoes, since his feet seem to change sizes every two weeks. When Joe spotted these tomato red PF Flyers online and on sale – we snapped them up! Don’t you just love the red laces? I figured he’d get some wear out of them over the summer.
I had no idea they still made PF Flyers, according to Wikipedia:
PF Flyers are a brand of athletic shoes that are currently manufactured by New Balance. They were first produced by BF Goodrich in 1937. They had popularity in the 1950s and 1960s, but lost steam during the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. The brand was purchased by Converse in 1972, but later sold off due to antitrust issues. New Balance bought the rights to the brand in 2001 (which had been dormant since 1992) and resurrected it in 2003.
He needed a bow tie to go with the sneakers, so it was off to the fabric district, with a size 11 men’s sneaker in my purse! I found a polka dot fabric that was a close match. If you’re interested in making a bow tie – there’s a tutorial here!
