This is the brainchild of Diane Morrisey, ain’t Instagram grand? I saw them on her feed, and they were so adorable, I just had to make them!
You’ll need a recipe for a double pie crust (or store bought – we don’t judge), strawberry jam, a can of cherry pie filling, a beaten egg with a tablespoon of water, and sparkling sugar.
Cut 4″ squares of the pie dough, put a heaping 1/2 teaspoon of the strawberry jam in the bottom of the envelope, fold and gently pinch the three sides to seal. Add cherries, brush with egg wash, and sprinkle with sugar. Bake on a parchment lined baking sheet at 375º for 15 to 20 minutes until golden.
Note: I didn’t have a tiny heart shaped cookie cutter so I used scissors and cut a strip of an empty soda can, formed a heart, and used masking tape on the bottom to hold it together.
