Visual Metaphor – From Focused Leader to Future CEO

This is another in a series of visual metaphors that I create as a learning tool for executive coaches to help their clients develop stronger leadership skills. This three-panel cartoon illustrates the client’s current state, near-term progress, and long-term aspirational vision.

Below is the client’s description of their leadership journey from which the illustrations were derived:

  • FRAME 1 (Current State) I now feel significantly more confident as an executive leader. A key part of this is mastering how I manage my time — staying laser-focused on the highest-priority work for both myself and my team to drive continued business growth.
  • FRAME 2 (Near-Term Progress – Next Couple of Years) I’m stepping up into a stronger leadership role on the executive committee. This includes being more vocal about important perspectives that longer-tenured leaders may overlook, and confidently advancing my ideas. My viewpoint — shaped by sales experience and a slightly younger lens — helps me see challenges and opportunities differently.
  • FRAME 3 (Aspirational Goal) My goal is to become CEO of the company. I’ll get there by leveraging strong situational awareness and intentionally combining key strengths: the pragmatism and well-rounded leadership of a trusted mentor, the forward-thinking ability to spot opportunities early, and my own deep passion for helping those around me succeed.

  1. Old NFO says:

That only works if they actually LEAD, not manage… Just sayin
