Engine 8

Engine8

My son’s preschool was located a few blocks from Engine 8, and unbeknownst to me, they would visit the station often. Whenever we were in Olde City, I would be led by my son to the station – Lloyd would waltz right in like he owned the place. The guys there were always very sweet to my son, who was obsessed with firetrucks. It was sad when the station was disbanded in 2009, but the fire yesterday morning was heartbreaking. This firehouse is referred to as the “Ben Franklin Firehouse” and is considered to be the oldest of it’s kind in America.

No wonder Lloyd has such a sad face in this picture 🙁

Lloyd loved going there, even more than the zoo. On one visit, they let him sit in one of the trucks – thrilled doesn’t even begin to describe it! Like I said before, the guys that worked there were very nice. I noticed they had shirts for sale and bought one for him, he’s wearing it in the photo.
