Tiptoe through the Sketchbooks

Having finished up the Canson XL Mixed Media Sketchbook, I am working here and there in a few different sketchbooks.

The subject is still The Teenage Beast.

As far as discount sketchbooks, the Ucreate sketchbook from Ticonderoga is a pretty decent pad of paper. I like how it takes inks. The surface of the paper is smooth, and it’s not too thin. It works out well as a sketchbook and is cheap enough where it works as well as a notebook.

Above is another view of the Beast plowing through a bunch of punks. The perspective is a little wonky, but I’m still working out the dynamics of the scene. It’s where my main character starts to shed his humanity to become the monster of the story.

Below is another drawing of the Beast.

I’ve broken out my 1264 mixed media sketchbook manufactured by Fabriano and I like the way the Sailor Fude De Mannen fountain pen works on it. The paper is similar to the Canson XL Mixed Media pad in that the paper is a little toothy, but I think the Fabriano is a little better than the Canson.

Below is a work in progress. I’m not sure of how to deal with the background.

I took the scan and digitally cheated a background in with Affinity Photo just to see what it would look like. I think I may have to start with the background and work my way up to the foreground.
