Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Tarzan published by Dell in 1960 when comics were still 10¢. WOW! The 20th century’s greatest hero for ten pennies! I think that if comics were that price, I would have been warehousing the things.
Of course in 1960 a dime went a lot further. A kid may have only gotten pocket change for chores. 10¢ was probably a princely sum to a kid at the end of the Eisenhower administration. That’s what a kid got for mowing the elderly neighbor’s lawn or cleaning out the garage.
It was before my time. I started buying comics at a quarter which seems like highway robbery in comparison.
Prices are always ‘relative’ to the era… sigh…
I imagine parents were not happy about the kids squandering nickels and dimes. Why don’t you save your money?
