I was sad to discover that Charlie Gracie, whose song “Butterfly” was a huge hit in 1957, passed away on Saturday. I met him when I was a freelance photographer for a small local paper in 2016. I was covering the “South Philly Musicians Remix” mural that at the time, was in the works when Mr. Gracie stopped by. For a man about to be immortalized along with Frankie Avalon, Bobby Rydell, Chubby Checker, Al Martino, and Fabian Forte, he was down to earth, and very charming! They don’t make them like him anymore. My condolences to his family and friends.
May he rest in peace.
Such a lovely man.
