Man with a Long Coat
Another family photo – I don’t know who he is – yet! Interesting that he’s posed in the photo wearing a long coat with a bowler hat on the table. It reminds me of the beginning of the movie The … Continue reading

Portrait of a Lady with Hat and Muff
Another restoration from my stock of old family photos. I’m not sure who she is, so I’ll post her in various Facebook groups in hopes that someone will recognize her. It’s a great portrait – a fancy hat, fur trimmed coat, and a … Continue reading
An Ode to Summer
As Labor Day approaches, another marvelous summer comes to an end – days at the pool, backyard tomatoes, barbecues, mosquitos, and fruit pies. I found this photo in my neighborhood antique store, while sifting through the stacks. It was taken in Atlantic … Continue reading

Portrait of a Grandmother as a Young Woman
Pardon the James Joyce reference. Another photo of the grandmother I’ve only heard vague stories about from my father, who was six when she died. I love everything about this photo – the pince-nez, her choker necklaces combined with the … Continue reading

School Photo
This is a photo of my grandfather that I forgot I had. He was born in 1891 – so a guess on my part is that this was taken in 1902 or 1903. What I definitely know is that it … Continue reading
Arm Wrestling
Another mysterious family portrait, the man in the middle holding the stop watch is my grandfather. The other two guys – they may be co-workers from American Thread, brothers, cousins, or friends, hopefully someone chimes in. I do love the staged … Continue reading

Positive I.D.
I’m always posting old family photos with the line “I have no idea who these people are”. People – write down names on the backs of your photos! Fortunately, I’ve had amazing luck posting my photos to various Facebook groups, … Continue reading

The Three Graces
Another old family photo from my collection. Again, I’m not sure who these ladies are – however, the woman seated in the middle bears a strong resemblance to my father’s sister Viola. What I find interesting about this photo is … Continue reading

Arthur Vertefeuille
Among the family photos I’ve restored is this studio portrait of my great aunt’s husband’s nephew. Photographs taken during this era were staged with painted backdrops, and props like books, courting benches, and tapestry covered tables. Original scan behind the cut.
